Rocket League Championship Series 4 finals location causes controversy

The fourth of season of the Rocket League Championship Series will culminate with a LAN event in Washington DC on 10-12 November.

The three day esports tournament will be held in the theatre of the MGM National Harbor which has a capacity of 3,000, a big increase on the 1,850 seats of the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles which was used for the final of RLCS 3.

And another improvement from RLCS 3 is the prize pool, the RLCS finalists will take shares from the huge $400,000 (£303,000). The Rocket League esports scene is continuing to grow with organisations like Fnatic and PSG joining.

This is the first time an RLCS LAN event will be held on the East Coast of the United States of America yet, this have proved to be a controversial decision.

This will be the second consecutive RLCS event to held in America and it means that three of the four RLCS tournaments have been over in the States with RLCS 1 and RLCS 3 being held in Los Angeles.

It means European fans will once again miss the chance to watch their favourite players in person but so will a lot of American fans. And wasn’t only fans voicing their concerns as some European players took to social media to also express their annoyance at not being ale to compete in front of a home crowd.

European Rocket League fans are annoyed they will miss out on yet another RLCS LAN event

While this is a great opportunity for fans from the East Coast, they could still miss out on the event because of the lateness of the announcement.

Announcing the venue just a month before the event doesn’t leave fans a lot of time to organise their trips and for many it will be too late to book time off work.

Still, for the fans who can attend it should be a fantastic event. Three-day tickets start from $67.34 (£51.06) while children aged seven and under go free.

Fortunate fans will also be able to purchase VIP tickets with lunch and seats in a VIP lounge and access to exclusive meet and greets with players from $275 (£208) per person.

But for other fans who want to meet players, they can purchase the ‘Ultimate Fan Experience Add-on’ for $45 () which will also give them access to the meet and greets.
