Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois expected to make full cognitive recovery from stroke

Mark Kirk is in news because of serious health issues as he suffered a stroke and underwent surgery. According to the doctors, U.S. Senator Mark Kirk of Illinois can expect to fully regain his cognitive abilities after a stroke and surgery over the weekend left him with limited movement. And the doctors are of the view that the recovery process for 52-year-old Republican could be slow, and some physical effects could be permanent.

On talking about Kirk’s health, a neurosurgeon at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Richard Fessler told the reporters at a news conference in Chicago, “I think his prospects for a full mental recovery are pretty good. I think the prospects for his full physical recovery, particularly on the left side of his body, are not great.”

Fessler continued to say that its “way too soon to try and predict” when Kirk might return to work in the Senate. “It’s not going to be days.”

One of the Kirk’s fellows, Democrat Dick Durbin said in a statement that he has reached out to Kirk’s staff “and offered to do anything I can, to help with his Senate duties.”
